Job Description: Veterinary Medicine - Veterinary Nursing - Large Animal Veterinary Technician
Position Overview:
The Large Animal Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in providing high-quality veterinary care for large animals in a veterinary medicine setting. The technician will assist veterinarians in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring the health of various large animal species, ensuring their wellbeing and promoting animal welfare.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide comprehensive support to veterinarians in large animal healthcare procedures and treatments.
2. Assist in performing physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and medical procedures on large animals, including horses, cows, pigs, and other livestock.
3. Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
4. Monitor and record vital signs, lab results, and patient progress during surgeries, treatments, and recovery periods.
5. Handle and restrain large animals safely and professionally during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
6. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
7. Provide compassionate care and handle large animals with sensitivity, minimizing stress and discomfort.
8. Assist in managing and maintaining veterinary equipment, supplies, and facilities.
9. Educate animal owners on proper care, medication administration, and post-treatment instructions.
10. Collaborate effectively with veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and other team members to ensure seamless workflow and excellent patient care.
11. Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications:
1. A minimum of an associate degree in veterinary technology or a related field is required.
2. Certification as a Veterinary Technician is preferred.
3. Proven experience working with large animals in a veterinary or agricultural setting is essential.
4. In-depth knowledge of large animal anatomy, physiology, and common diseases is required.
5. Proficient in handling and restraining large animals safely and effectively.
6. Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology, pharmacology, and diagnostic procedures.
7. Exceptional observational skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions accurately.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with veterinarians, colleagues, and animal owners.
